چکیده

Sweet potato is an important food crop in Eastern Ethiopia, including the West Hararghe Zone. However, area still far behind attaining required optimum productivity of potato, this due to biotic and abiotic factors, inappropriate Agronomic practices lack improved variety, tackle these problems; variety improvement research major one. Therefore, objectives study were estimate magnitudes genotype, environment, genotype by environment interaction effects on genotypes identify high yielder stable for wide adaptability Zone, Ethiopia. The experiment was carried out at two locations (Mechara station Habro district) three consecutive years (2018–2020) 20 using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with replications. Additive main multiplicative interactions analysis (AMMI) indicated that yield performances under environmental interactions. first principal component axes (PCA 1 2) significant (p≤0.01) cumulatively contributed 73% total interaction. In GGE bi-plot genotypic scores PCA lower 2 gave yields (stable genotypes), larger had low (unstable as sites tested. Besides, G3 G5 across tested higher root (43.94t ha-1 49.34 t ha-1), respectively). recommended possible release Zone similar agro-ecology country. Res. Agric. Livest. Fish. 10(1): 43-52

Anthocyanins in Purple Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Varieties

Anthocyanins from purple sweet potatoes can serve as natural colorants due to their high heat and light stability and are commonly used in juices, alcoholic beverages, jams, confectioneries, bread, snacks and noodles. There are several commercially available varieties of purple sweet potatoes, which can vary in storage root size, shape, and color. During the last decade sweet potato cultivars w...

Some Proximate Properties Of Sweet Potato (Ipomoea Batatas L) As Influenced By Cooking Methods

The effect of cooking methods on some proximate properties of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L) was investigated. With the initial properties of the fresh sweet potatoes (sample A) determined, 600g each of samples B, C and D were boiled peeled, boiled unpeeled and roasted unpeeled respectively. The properties determined for the samples are moisture content, ash, fibre, protein, fat, carbohydrate...

Anti-ulcer activity of Ipomoea batatas tubers (sweet potato)

Background: Peptic ulcers occur in that part of the gastrointestinal tract which is exposed to gastric acid and pepsin, i.e., the stomach and duodenum. Gastric and duodenal ulcers are common pathologies that may be induced by a variety of factors such as stress, smoking and noxious agents including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ipomoea batatas tubers (sweet potato) contain ample amount...

Structure of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) diversity in West Africa covaries with a climatic gradient

Sub-Saharan agriculture has been identified as vulnerable to ongoing climate change. Adaptation of agriculture has been suggested as a way to maintain productivity. Better knowledge of intra-specific diversity of varieties is prerequisites for the successful management of such adaptation. Among crops, root and tubers play important roles in food security and economic growth for the most vulnera...

Synergistic interactions of begomoviruses with Sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (genus Crinivirus) in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.).

Three hundred and ninety-four sweet potato accessions from Latin America and East Africa were screened by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of begomoviruses, and 46 were found to be positive. All were symptomless in sweet potato and generated leaf curling and/or chlorosis in Ipomoea setosa. The five most divergent isolates, based on complete genome sequences, were used to study i...
